Andros is the northerners island of the Cyclades and second largest after Naxos. The port of Gavrio, is 2 hours (1 hour by speedboat) from the port of Rafina. Andros as the Metropolis of the fine arts was a cultural center for many notable artists, painters and sculptors. Great personality of the island was the philosopher Theophilos Kairis, who established the orphanage that later on was turned into a school. Andreas Embirikos, Greek expressionist in surrealism, has for his native island Andros, as well as the great poet Polemis.

The Chora, the island's capital, majestic and impressive. Built on a peninsula, between the beaches Niborio and Paraporti, leads with a stone arched bridge in the Isle with the medieval castle. On the other hand, the excellent Museum of contemporary art, founded by Goulandris Foundation, thanks to the virtuoso pair of Vasilis and Eliza Goulandris, turned Andros the cradle of excellent artists and exhibitions. The Kairis library is also active, with a great wealth of old and new publications and the Kydonieus Foundation, with the varied cultural activities.

The neoclassical element is rousing in architecture in the country, which stretches along the large pedestrian zone which then narrows to arrive in the square of Afanis Nautis. Michalis Tombros created the statue of Afanis Nautis, dedicated to those who perished at sea and recalls that the Andros was an important feeder of the Greek shipping industry with manpower. Ahead of us lies the rock where is found the medieval castle and communicates with the Mainland by a small stone bridge. In the main street of Chora you will find a market with all kinds of shops that will satisfy every visitor.

Just outside Chora, in the region of Messaria you can visit the Aladinou cave or cave "Foros", which is probably the only limestone cave in the Cyclades of this size.

Batsi attracts young people because of its night life and picturesque style.

Gavrio is the port of the island. From here you can start excursions to the north side of the island, to see and to enjoy stunning beaches, such as Fellos and Zorkos or visit the villages of the region, Vitali, Amolocho, Makrotantalo, etc.

To the South the consecutive golden beaches will impress you.

At the location of Agios Petros, survives the impressive Tower of St. Peter (perhaps from the Hellenistic period), cyclic five-storey, with vaulted ceiling and height of 20 meters. In the original building Byzantine and medieval interventions had intervened, and kept in good condition.

Andros has rich rainfall throughout the winter. No coincidence indeed, the ancient name of Hydrousa. Rivers, ravines and rare fauna and flora are hiding in the hinterland. Rarely landscapes as wetlands in Bori, Gialia, Achla, Paraporti of Chora.

Menites village with cobblestone streets, ancient trees are well-known to everyone because of the springs that exist there. Its springs are known as springs of Dionysos. According to one version, this place was the Temple of God and from the spring the days of its feast flowed plenty of wine. The many fountains among the ancient trees in the square of Menites create a captivating image in the eyes of all visitors. It's the coolest part of the island with lush vegetation, beautiful homes and lush gardens. The name derives from "maenads" nymphs of the God Dionysus.

Apikia village is situated 5 km to the North of Chora. A beautiful village with the mineral springs of Sariza. Near the village of Apoikia in ten minute walk lies the Gorge Pythara with small waterfalls and wonderful rock formations. Following the creek Pythara one can see the largest watermill in the Balkans which from 1863 until 1936 was supplying the pasta factory located next to it.
